Sandy Young
is a retired English teacher with 32 years of experience in the high school classroom.  During those years, she also worked as an adjunct professor in the English departments at two junior colleges.  The courses that she taught in both venues were in grammar, composition, and literature, with several years’ experience in teaching Advanced Placement English.  As a lifelong lover of the English language, she had a great desire to instill this love in her students; therefore, she continually studied grammar, punctuation, usage, and composition so that she could meet her goal.  Through helping her students learn, she became a master grammarian herself.  Today, she still enjoys the challenge of improving any kind of composition.

Sandy has held memberships in local (Escambia County Council of Teachers of English), state (Florida Council of Teachers of English), and national (National Council of Teachers of English) organizations for English teachers and was named Teacher of the Year at each level during her years of teaching in Florida.  In 1993, when she was named Florida English Teacher of the Year, she also received the Honor Award, an award given to an educator making the most positive impact on the teaching of English during a given year.  Sandy’s published writing has appeared in the English Journal and We Need Not Walk Alone, a quarterly publication of The Compassionate Friends.

Sandy holds both a B.A. degree and an M.A. degree in English from Mississippi College.
